Complex Web Page Services

I should start this out by saying that solid.net does not normally design simple-basic html web pages.  There is lots of free software to do that.  For example, this page was initially entered and all revisions have been done with a plain text editor.  Even for things slightly more complicated there are less expensive solutions than solid.net may be.  However, even though we do not create basic pages, we do host them and since 1995 have hosted lots of them. For awhile we bragged that we had sites representing people on every continent except antarctica. I was told in 1996 that we had the largest collection of commercial web sites in Oregon. There was no real way to validate that statement in 1996 and there certainly is no way to validate it now.

Our real expertise is doing the server magic behind complex web pages.  Unfortunately, much of the work we have done over the years has been covered by nondisclosure agreements. We intended to honor those agreements when we made them and we still intend to honor them. Part of those nondisclosure agreements is that we can't even discuss that we worked on the projects. In many cases someone else received the initial contract for the work, subcontracted it to us, and then they got the credit for completing it. A really bad side effect of the dot com bomb is that many of the companies we did the work for have not paid us for all of our work and are unlikely to ever pay us. Many of those projects were very large projects so we have not done huge numbers them and not being able to show potential customers the sites or use them somewhere else is a real problem for us.

The solution to this would seem to be to just create some demo sites. The problem with creating demo instances of the type of work we do is that much of it is very involved so it takes a lot of time to create and debug them. Recently we started creating some projects we could show to people and if we were lucky even turn into real projects. Some of links on the Solid.net home page discuss those demo projects. We can give you others if you tell us specifically what you are looking for. But if you have a project that needs to interact with a database, has dynamic content, or needs java or perl for special reasons, etc. you should discuss it with us before deciding to have someone else do it. While we won't violate our nondisclosure agreements or even allude to those projects on a web site, we can probably give you some hints during a telephone call about some of the things we have done.

If you would like a dedicated server, would like to have your web pages on one of our servers, or would like to discuss one of the services on this page, send an email message to newservice@solid.net with a note about what services you need. Within 48 hours we can usually have a server configured for your needs.
